Message from the director of Fukui International Human Resources Development Center for Atomic Energy

The Fukui International human resources development center for atomic energy (Fukui HRDC) was founded on the 1st of April,2011 in Fukui prefecture having the missions that contribute to nuclear safety technology and human resources development in the world mostly for Asia.
Fukui is the advanced prefecture that has a lot of knowledge concerned with nuclear engineering as well as the potential of human resources development and leading edge research , because the 13 commercial nuclear power plants and research institutes such as prototype fast breeder reactor “Monju” are accumulated
Fukui HRDC has the purpose that trains and produces human resources who are competent enough to perform in the world by cooperating with the universities in Chukyo region or Kansai region, in addition to the facilities for research and training in Fukui.
We will play the role as the center of international human resources development, by carrying out the following activities
○Human resources development particularly for the countries that have the plan of introducing nuclear power plants.
○Acceptance of researchers and graduate students from abroad
○Holding international meetings and symposium

Message from Dr. Machi, Advisor to Fukui International Human Resource Development for Atomic Energy

Nuclear power is now entering in new era. Nuclear power is able to play important role for improving energy security and to mitigate global warming. A number of developing countries have, therefore, serious plan to introduce nuclear power. However, nuclear human resources development is an urgent challenge for these countries to successfully introduce the first nuclear power plant.
Japan has long and successful experience in nuclear power, and is pleased to share our knowledge and experience with developing countries. In this context the Fukui Prefectural Government has established the Fukui International Human Resources Development Center for Atomic Energy (Fukui HRDC) on the 1st of April, 2011 to support developing countries for their human resource development urgently needed for development of nuclear power and radiation application.
The Fukui Prefecture hosts 13 nuclear power plants and prototype FBR “Monju” as well as the Wakasawan Energy Research Center. The Fukui HRDC has privilege to use rich experience in construction of nuclear power, assurance of nuclear safety, plant operation/maintenance, and good harmony with local community, and research on nuclear power and radiation application.
The Fukui HRDC will provide workshops, training courses, seminars and facility visits with unique curriculum to meet needs of developing countries in collaboration with power companies, research institutes, universities, nuclear facility manufacturers, and local communities with the support of Japanese Government.

Resources Development center for Atomic Energy
