Not only human life but also the survival of all living things are built upon the utilization of energy. For the whole world to enjoy social activities similar to those in the current advanced countries, however, every energy source has serious problems such as the limitation of the resources and the problem of environmental impacts. Therefore, conducting research on the development of more dependable and sustainable energy source as well as energy utilization is an urgent and important task for the present and future welfare of the world. Based on this situation, we at WERC are working on R&D to utilize nuclear power and energy-related science and technology, human resource development, exchange and cooperation with institutions in both Japan and overseas. Through these efforts, we will contribute to the activation of local communities aiming at promoting science and technology, developing sound national economy, and contributing to the international society.
