Request for Admission to the Supporting Membership WERC was established in September 1994 with the goal of contributing to the development of vibrant local communities and also promoting science and technology, developing sound national economy, and contributing to the international society, through R & D to utilize nuclear power and energy related science and technology, human resource development, and exchange and cooperation with institution in both Japan and overseas. Since then WERC has worked on a variety of researches such as proton cancer therapy, breed improvement of plants by ion beam irradiation, and development of new metals or materials. We are, however, dependent on the supporting membership fees for the bulk of these research expenses. Fortunately, our efforts for these researches are now paying off; for example, preparations are under way for opening a facility for proton cancer therapy in Fukui by 2009. Additionally, "Energy R & D Centralization Project Office" as the promotion engine of the "Energy R & D Centralization Plan" formulated by Fukui Prefecture, was established at WERC in last July. Using "creation and development of industries", "human resource development and exchange" and "enhancement of R & D functions" as the keywords for our objective, we have actively engaged in forming industry-academia-government networks, training programs for participation into nuclear-power-related business, technical support and consultation by utilizing WERC's scientific instruments. We at WERC will continue our efforts for contributing to the development of local industries by making the most of the valuable funds from the supporting membership. Membership Services : - provide one-stop services for solving technical challenges faced by the member companies in a comprehensive and unified way. (In case that usage of scientific instruments or accelerators is for collaborative research between the member companies, WERC covers the usage fees.) - send a journal "E-Life" published by WERC. - send information on a variety of workshops, seminars and lectures hosted by WERC including the training for workers engaged in nuclear-power-related businesses. (Each admission is free in principle.) - give publicity to the member companies on WERC's website, journals, etc. WERC is a specified public-interest promotion organization stated in the income tax law and the corporation tax law, and thus the inclusion in the donor’s expenses is permitted for this membership fee as a specified donation separately from a general donation.
